The city of Miami sets the pace for South Florida culture for a reason: It’s a big, bustling city with year-round sunny days and a nightlife that never stops. But Miami isn’t just a gem in Florida, it’s a city known for its music, entertainment, sports, art, cuisine, and contributions to popular culture worldwide.
Home to a dynamic mix of cultures and styles it’s no wonder Miami has been called the “Gateway to the Americas”! It will be our gateway to the Caribbean, serving as our point of departure and return for DDC19 and destination for our Elite trip winners.
“What’s special about Miami is the collision of cultures. And the white sand beaches and fantastic restaurants.” – Jeffrey Dean Morgan
What To Do? You Can Always Hang Out At the Beach
We can’t talk about Miami without mentioning Miami Beach. After all, it’s one of the world’s most famous destinations for sunbathers. If lying in the sand or playing in the surf is your thing, this is one of the best places in the world to do it. Sunny blue skies? Check. White sand? Check. Sparkling blue-green water? Check.
“I love Miami; I miss it so much. I miss the beach, the peace it brings you. I love the sound and smell of the sea.”– Genesis Rodriguez
Or Maybe You’d Prefer Fresh Water
If relaxing by the pool is more your style, the historic Venetian Pool is just down the road in Coral Gables. Built in 1924, it’s a massive and magnificent public pool with fresh water fed from artesian wells, and captivating retro architecture all around.
Step Back in Time in the Art Deco District
Speaking of architecture, if you have a taste for beautiful buildings, Miami is a feast for the eyes. Its Art Deco District, conveniently located near Miami Beach, includes beautiful historic landmarks like Park Central Hotel, Essex House, and the Villa Casa Casuarina. Self-guided walking tours are available for those who want to soak in the sights and sounds of this gorgeous area of the city.
In addition to sightseeing, you can enjoy boutique shopping in Bal Harbor, Lincoln Road, or Coconut Grove. And Calle Ocho (8th Street) in Little Havana offers many options for authentic Cuban culture and cuisine.
